With little rain over the last couple of months, fire danger is high in Connecticut’s forests and neighboring communities.

There hasn’t been much downtime for firefighters with brush fire season starting to pick up, the last time it rained in Connecticut was two weeks ago. DEEP Firefighters have put out or helped towns put out about 20 brush fires, that includes a 40-to-50-acre burner in Canterbury.

Because of severe storms over the past two years, from hurricane forced winds to the October snowfall in 2011, downed trees are ripe to go up in flames, causing more problems than usual.

With fire danger at very high and no rain in sight in the near future, we could be looking at extreme conditions very soon in Connecticut.
