NEW HAVEN – A city man was seriously injured when he was thrown from the hood of a car on Shepard Street during a dangerous game, police said.

Michael Carey, 21, suffered serious injuries in the accident, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Friday. Police said Carey was willingly riding on the hood of a Chevrolet Cavalier operated by Naquasia Ricks of West Haven and was flung from the vehicle when the brakes were applied.

Carey was taken by ambulance to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he was listed in critical condition Friday night. He was conscious and able to speak with investigators, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate. No charges have been filed at this time.
