The six educators killed on December 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School were honored for their bravery Monday with the Citizen Honors Medal, the highest award the Congressional Medal of Honor Society awards to civilians.
The nation’s most decorated military heroes applauded the efforts of the educational heroes of Sandy Hook, who in the face of tragedy scrambled to help save colleagues and their young students.
Each of the victim’s families received the honor on behalf of their relative – the citizen honors medal – given each year to everyday people who have saved lives or changed fate in amazing ways. People from across the country wanted these Sandy Hook educators honored.
