GLASTONBURY – A woman who police said went to a tour of a “high-end” house and stole more than $26,000 worth of jewelry faces a theft charge.

Sharon Lynn Nigosanti, 43, of Deep River, may have committed similar crimes across the state, Agent  James A. Kennedy said Monday.

She was charged with first-degree larceny early Monday and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Manchester later in the day. She initially was detained by Old Saybrook police on an unrelated charge, he said.

Kennedy said she stole $26,249.92 worth of jewelry during an open house on Jan. 20. The jewelry’s owner had put it in a box and hid it in the closet while prospective buyers were touring the house, he said, but when the open house was over the jewelry was gone.

She was with a second person at the time of the tour, he said. The investigation continues.
