Our beautiful spring weather continues today and tomorrow with plenty of sunshine and mild temperatures with highs in the 70s inland, 50s and 60s along the shore. Much needed rain is finally on the way and is slated to reach Connecticut by Wednesday and Thursday.
Our dry stretch of weather is about to come to an end as low pressure across the southeast will finally move into our direction with bands of rain and showers for Wednesday and Thursday. This will be the first time since April 20th that our area will receive measurable rainfall. The Omega Block will finally break down and allow for that rain to move into the region by Wednesday and Thursday, along with with low pressure that had been battering parts of the nation with record snow last week and flooding parts of south during the weekend.
Current forecast models show parts of our area receiving a quarter of an inch of rain. Weak high pressure will move in for Friday with dry, fair weather and highs rebounding back into the 70s.
By the weekend, another slow moving cold front will approach the region with the possibility of significant rain upwards of an inch. This will be a welcome relief to our local farmers as this is the critical time to have a solid water supply for the planting season. Reservoirs and rivers have been low with very dry top soil conditions as a result of our current dry conditions. Annual precipitation is averaging 4 to 5 inches below normal for this time of year. Hopefully the rain will enrich and moisten the ground in time for growing season.
