A 25-year-old city resident faces first-degree assault charges after a knife fight late Sunday at the intersection of Lombard and Ferry streets.

When police arrived around 11:30 p.m., they found a man, later identified as Felix Sanches of Hamden, with a severe laceration to his face.

They also saw two men nearby engaged in a fight.
