Ten years without a title were too many, so the Connecticut Sun said goodbye to Mike Thibault and hello to new head coach Anne Donovan, who won a WNBA championship with Seattle.

So far, Donovan likes what she sees.

“Not just the returning players, but some of the new kids in the mix, it’s going to be hard to cut it down to 11,” she said.

Donovan said the team is moving quickly. Former UConn women’s basketball players Tina Charles and Renee Montgomery haven’t practiced yet but will be in the mix later this week.

Kelly Faris, another UConn alumna, was the Sun’s first-round draft pick this season.

Donovan comes to the Sun from Seton Hall. She said the WNBA moves at a faster pace and allows her to focus purely on basketball and not worry about her team’s efforts in the classroom.

“It’s a different maturity level, which I love,” she said.

Donovan said the key to winning a championship is getting used to new coaches, new players and replacing star Asjha Jones.
