Two Connecticut disaster-relief organizations are preparing to help the victims of Monday’s devastating EF4 tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.

In Farmington, the Charter Oak Chapter of the American Red Cross is planning a “major relief effort,” which includes sending equipment, supplies and people.

It is also reaching out to volunteers to help, if necessary.

In an e-mail,  Stamford-based Americares plans to send a team to coordinate relief efforts, and said that team should be on the ground in Oklahoma sometime Tuesday.

The tornado’s winds, which could have approached 200 miles per hour, flattened whole neighborhoods in Moore, including an elementary school. As of Tuesday morning, the confirmed death toll is 51, including 7 children, but that number is expected to rise.
