Last Memorial Day weekend, East Hampton residents woke to the news that a 130-year-old landmark had been destroyed by fire. Bevin Bros. Manufacturing Company, the last company in North America to exclusive produce bells, had its factory gutted in the blaze, which officials believe was started by a lightning strike.

But a year later, things are back in motion at Bevin Bells. Matt Bevin said the company is up and running and business volume is at about half of what it was before the fire. Right now the company is operating in a formerly vacant factory building near the old site. Bevin said he would like to rebuild on the original location, using some of the same bricks, but that is a way off.
