STORRS – The UConn baseball team will be going to Virginia Tech to begin the NCAA Tournament on Friday. A roar went up in the dining room at UConn when the team, a day after winning the Big East championship, learned where it was headed.

“We’re excited just to be going anywhere,” said pitcher Carson Cross, who will start against Va. Tech at English Field in Blacksburg, Va., on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The Huskies (34-26), who earned the bid with their surprising run at the league tournament title, will be playing one of the top teams in the ACC, a power baseball conference – five league teams are hosting Regionals as No. 1 seeds.  Virginia Tech, its program growing under former Boston College coach Pete Hughes, will be hosting a regional for the first time.
