Margaret Rose George, a senior at Conard High School in West Hartford, was one of 1,000 students across the country, and the only one from Connecticut, to be accepted into the Gates Millennium Scholars Program.

Funded by a foundation established by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, the scholarship will cover George’s tuition all the way up to a doctorate degree. George will be attending College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.

George said she applied for more than 40 scholarships to help pay for college. She encourages students to work hard, stay determined and keep up with deadlines when applying for scholarships.
