Lace them up and get ready. Saturday the Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure hits the streets of Hartford. Seventy-five percent of the money raised by Komen CT on Saturday will go to local organizations supporting breast cancer research.
There was quite a workout at Bushnell Park on Friday just to get everything set up, and a glance across the green will reveal that pink is prevalent. After a rainy race last year, even though it will be a bit warm, organizers are looking forward to the sun.
“This is our 20th anniversary race. I believe we will see $1 million,” said race chairwoman Dawn Thomas, “It’s just very moving and a very emotional day just to see so many people who care who want to find an end to breast cancer.”
The race committee says they are hoping for 7,000 runners and 15,000 supporters. Anyone interested in registering for the Race for the Cure can show up at 7 a.m. at Bushnell Park on Saturday. The 5k run begins at 8:30. The walkers begin at 10:25.
