The terrible tornado that hit Oklahoma was among the worst on record — an ef-5.  As they pick up the pieces in the town of Moore, some folks here in Connecticut went to Oklahoma to help out.

A group from Sandy Hook recently made it their mission to assist the tornado victims, and they’ve just returned from a road trip to remember. Peter Baressi, a Sandy Hook firefighter, and friends Howard Wood, John Dicostanzo and Bill Faucett made the 3,400 mile round trip trek to assist the victims.

The team loaded up two trailers full of goodwill, including batteries, food and flashlights.

“It was very therapeutic. It was as much about helping them as it was helping myself,” said Baressi, who went to Sandy Hook Elementary and has a first grader at the school now. “Just letting them know that everybody is thinking of them and that our prayers are with them and we’ll do whatever we can to support them.’’

There is talk of another trip to Oklahoma. Dicostanzo said he plans to load up another trailer and head to Moore, perhaps as early as June 21.
