The Hartford Marathon Foundation is organizing a new event, the Legends Run, which will be hosted on June 30 at Wesleyan University in Middletown.
The four-mile road race will feature running greats Bill Rodgers, Amby Burfoot and Donn Cabral, athletes who have connections to the local running community. Rodgers is a former American record holder with victories in the Boston and New York City marathons; Burfoot won the 1968 Boston Marathon as a senior at Wesleyan and served as editor of Runner’s World magazine.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be hosting Bill, Amby and Donn in this inaugural event and to give our running community the opportunity to run alongside these truly inspirational athletes,” Beth Shluger, executive director of the Hartford Marathon Foundation, said in a statement. “The Legends Run will celebrate the sport and our Connecticut running rock stars with a great course through the rolling hills of Middletown that Bill and Amby ran as Wesleyan students.”
