WATERBURY A 23-year-old woman was caught with 34,500 bags of heroin in the trunk of her car Monday morning, police said.
Traci Basta was pulled over around 1 a.m. on North Main Street at Elizabeth Street after making an illegal turn and because the vehicle she was driving matched the description of a vehicle that had been stolen, police said.
Police discovered the heroin, valued at $350,000, during the traffic stop, police said.
“This is one of the most significant heroin seizures in the city’s history and the most significant that resulted from a motor vehicle stop,” said Acting Deputy Chief Christopher Corbett.
Basta, the only occupant of the vehicle, was charged with a variety of narcotic and motor vehicle charges, police said.
She was arraigned Monday in Superior Court in Waterbury. Her bond was set at $200,000.
