“Last night and this morning, it definitely came down,” said FoxCT meteorologist Sam Sampieri.
Between two and three inches of rain have fallen and those amounts likely won’t get any higher, he said.
Flood warnings are in effect for the Connecticut River, the Housatonic River and the Farmington River until Saturday. A warning is also in effect for the Sill River in Brookfield.
“They’re all over their flood stage,” Sampieri said.
The main rain should end mid to late morning, clearing in the afternoon.
“There’s still a chance for an isolated thunderstorm late in the day because the atmosphere is a bit unstable,” Sampieri said.
While the flood warnings for the large rivers remain in effect until Saturday, some of the flooding over roads and smaller brooks should go away Friday afternoon, Sampieri said.
The Chester-Hadlyme ferry was closed until further notice due to flooding, the Department of Transportation reported.
The Metropolitan District closed the Lake McDonough Recreation area in Barkhamsted and the boat launch and access road at Goodwin Dam-West Branch Reservoir in Hartland due to the rainfall.
Riverside Park in Hartford is also closed.
Saturday should be sunny with temperatures near 80. Sunday will have sun and clouds with possible showers later in the day.
