NEWTOWN – Friday marks six months since 20 first graders and six educators were shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. A number of ceremonies will be held throughout the day to honor those lost.

Victims family members and local leaders will pause for a moment silence at Edmond Town Hall in Newtown at 9:35 a.m.

Afterward, Mayors Against Illegal Guns will kick off a nationwide campaign to reduce gun violence by reading the names of people who have been shot and killed since December 14, 2012.

The group plans on driving across the country, stopping in 25 states in about 100 days.

Victims families are calling Friday not only a day of remembrance, but also a day of action. Many of the families returned to Connecticut from the nation’s capitol just yesterday. They spent the week pushing lawmakers to resume efforts to strengthen federal gun control laws through enhanced background checks.
