MANCHESTER – A strong thunderstorm that moved through south Manchester Monday afternoon, toppled trees and knocked out power and snapped the flagpole at Bennet Academy on Main Street.

The most serious incident was at 114 Lakewood Circle North, where a large oak tree uprooted and fell onto a house, seriously damaging the roof. A building official declared the home uninhabitable, which displaced the one person who lived there.

Firefighters handled seven storm-related calls, mostly involving wires and tree limbs. About 600 Connecticut Light & Power Co. customers lost power as the storm passed.
