A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued in southeastern Hartford county and southwestern Tolland county until 4:00 p.m.

A flash flood warning is also in effect in Hartford county until 6:00 p.m as well as southern Windham county and central Tolland county until 6:15 p.m.

A line of showers and thunderstorms are producing torrential downpours, gusty winds, hail and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning this afternoon as a cold front slowly crosses the area through this evening.  Low pressure along the front will cause showers to persist past midnight across southeastern Connecticut.

Skies will clear for a wonderful, comfortable Wednesday with plenty of sunshine and highs in the mid to upper 70s.  Wednesday night will see a clear sky with the moon below Saturn and near record-low temperatures in the 40s.  The record low is 45 set back in 1918.

High pressure out of central Canada will move across New England and dominate our weather into the weekend.  Highs Thursday through Saturday will be in the upper 70s to lower and middle 80s, with overnight lows in the 50s and 60s.

High pressure will slowly move off the southeast coast and set-up shop across Bermuda, transporting heat and humidity into southern New England as our cool, wet June pattern is about to undergo a major reversal by next week. By Sunday and early next week, heat and humidity finally return with highs up near 90.

Rest of Forecast:

Tonight: Early showers/thunderstorms (period of rain possible across southeastern areas after midnight) then partly cloudy, patchy fog. Low: 55-62.
Wednesday: A mix of sun and clouds, breezy and comfortable. High: 75-80. Clear and chilly at night. Low: 38-48.
Thursday and Friday: Mostly sunny, dry and pleasant. High: Upper 70s to low 80s.
Weekend: Partly sunny, warmer with highs in the 80s, low in the 50s, and a slight chance for late-day thunderstorms.
