The Haven String Quartet is performing at the International Festival of Arts & Ideas at various locations around New Haven this week. The group performs on the String Quartet Truck, a flatbed truck that travels around the Elm City from June 17-21.

The Haven String Quartet Truck is part of a collaborative project from Music Haven, the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, the Connecticut Office of the Arts, and Nick and Jean Lamont. During the year, the group runs Music Haven, a community-based nonprofit organization that provides tuition-free after-school lessons and musical instruction to children in the under-served neighborhoods of New Haven. The group rehearses daily in a transparent garage on Whalley Avenue, where anyone is welcome to walk in and listen to the music.

The Haven String Quartet’s mission is to build the community through music education and performance. In addition, the group aims to provide access and opportunity to and through music.
