It’s a amazing what a win will do, especially a “major” one. Fresh off his win at the U.S. Open, Justin Rose was a favorite at the Travelers Championship … on the course, and with the fans.
Rose drew one of the biggest galleries for the opening round with many spectators expecting to tag along from the first tee to the 18th green.
Rose didn’t disappoint, with a birdie on the very first hole. Rose wound up shooting a 3-under 67 for the opening round.
Because he had just won the U.S. Open, there was concern that Rose would drop out of the Travelers Championship. He didn’t, and local golf fans were ecstatic.
“Having Justin here really says it can be done and it’s nice for the tournament,” said Carl Kott of Rutland, Mass.
Bill Shipman of Shrewsbury, Mass., concurred, saying, “It’s the U.S. Open champion, best player in the world right now, so it’s good to see him in New England.”
