The Capitol Report panel discusses the outcome of a Quinnipiac Poll that showed Connecticut has more Yankees fans than Red Sox fans. The group also sees the clip from a Hartford Whalers fan who incorporated his love for the former team into his wedding.

The Connecticut governor’s race might be to o close to call, but the New York Yankees have a 42 – 37 percent lead over the Boston Red Sox in the hearts of fans in Quinnipiac University’s annual Connecticut Baseball Poll.

Only 8 percent of fans cheer for the New York Mets.

A total of 52 percent of Connecticut adults are “very interested” or “somewhat interested” in Major League Baseball, the independent Quinnipiac University poll finds. Fans under 35 years old prefer the Yankees 50 – 36 percent, while older fans are more evenly divided between the two legendary rivals.

There is a gender gap as women back the Bombers 48 – 35 percent while men are divided with 40 percent for the Sox and 37 percent for the Yankees. mFairfield County goes to the Yankees 55 – 15 percent, while Hartford County goes to the Sox 50 – 35 percent. Boston also rules 49 – 32 percent in Tolland, Windham and New London Counties.

From June 12 – 17, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,341 Connecticut adults with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points. Live interviewers call landlines and cell phones.
