Heather Smith, 18, crashed her car near Timber Lane and Tree Top Drive in Ellington around 10:30 a.m. State Police said she left the scene of that accident, and they are concerned for her safety. They were notified of her disappearance by her parents. Her father is an Ellington firefighter.

Search and rescue crews canvassed the area, and a helicopter flew over the nearby state park, seeking the 5-foot-2 teen, who has brown hair and hazel eyes.

Heather was last seen wearing a pink Aeropostale shirt with blue green lettering, and with black leggings with the word “pink” on the rear.

A silver alert has been issued for her as police seek the public’s help to locate her.

“We have every available resource right now looking for her in the woods,” said State Police Sgt. Patrick Sweeney.

“Just seeing the people go back and forth … I have a daughter, too,” said Russ Lawton of Ellington. “Just seeing if I can help.

Anyone with information about Heather’s whereabouts is asked to call State Police Troop C at 860-896-3200.
