NEW LONDON — A 3 1/2 foot long alligator was found on Broad Street on Saturday afternoon.
A New London resident called the police at about 12:30 p.m. to report the reptile was sitting in the front yard of a house.
When police officers responded, the alligator was seen running down the sidewalk and onto a small grassy area off of Broad Street.
Officers were able to contain the alligator until Animal Control arrived to cage it, police said.
Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials responded and took custody of the alligator.
It is unknown at this time where the alligator came from.
