It was a brush with death for a Tolland family Monday night when a tree came crashing into their home.
It was 7:00 in the morning when Steve Sattler awoke to find his home under attack.
“I ran outside… oh my god, what the heck happened”, said Sattler, recounting the morning.
A tree had toppled onto his roof with the branches shooting through the ceiling and several walls.
“This was so dangerous”, said Sattler.
But it was the damage inside the home that still scares him, a limb landing on his daughter’s bed.
“Her head would have been right there”, said Sattler, pointing at her pillow on the bed.
But thankfully she spent the night at her grandmother’s house instead.
“…if she had been home that night, this would have been a tragedy”, said Sattler.
Tolland Fire Chief, John Littell responded to the scene quickly after calls came into the department.
He believes the tree fell with provocation from any current storm.
“The trees have weakened, the rain is making it worse – here’s a simple situation – there was no wind, there was no storm damage this morning, it came down on its own”, said Chief Littell.
