STAMFORD — A 35-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday after severely beating a man who had been harassing him and his wife, police said.
Rodolfo Calate-Morente is charged with first-degree assault. He is in custody with bail set at $500,000.
The victim is in serious condition at Stamford Hospital.
Police say the victim was a former acquaintance of Calate-Morente’s 25-year-old wife and may have been harassing the couple for several months.
He arrived pulled up to the couple’s Aberdeen Street home around 10:25 p.m. Wednesday. Calate-Morente beat him with a bat, causing severe head injuries, police said.
The couple’s property was searched and evidence of the crime was discovered, police said.
The alleged harassment by the victim had not been reported to police. Investigators will review look into those claims, police said.
