Fulton Park’s Pool opened Tuesday in Waterbury after it was shut down for four days.
Vandals caused $5,400 worth of damage last week. The city paid for that through the Parks and Rec Department.
Now city leaders are looking to the future, looking at ways to keep vandals away from city parks for good.
“I have decided that we will be putting alarms around the buildings that contain a lot of chemicals,” said Mayor Neil O’Leary.
Mayor O’Leary said they’re already working with companies to get some bids in. The city would pay for it through the budget. No matter the cost he says it’s worth it.
“If we had an alarm at that building (Fulton Pool) suffice to say police would have gotten there pretty quickly,” he said.
The alarms would likely be motion sensors and wouldn’t be put in unil the fall. They would be put in across all city parks.
Mayor O’Leary expects Waterbury Police to make arrests regarding Fulton Park’s Pool damage on Thursday. He said he believes they are juveniles who committed the vandalism.
