NEW HAVEN – The city’s new superintendent will reveal his plans for the school district for the first time on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the New Haven Board of Education voted for Garth Harries to be the new superintendent after a nationwide search, which involved public input and focus groups. Harries was the former assistant superintendent of Portfolio and Performance Management since 2009, and one of three final candidates.

Before coming to New Haven, Harries worked in the New York City public school system, where he developed a background in special education.

When Harries was appointed as the district’s superintendent, he said he was humbled and excited to help shape the future of the 21,000 students in the city. Today at 9:30 a.m., he will host a press conference in New Haven to answer questions and talk about his plans to improve student performance.

Tune in for the Fox CT News at 4 and 5 p.m. for continuing coverage of the superintendent’s first press conference.
