Some New London health care workers are charging Lawrence and Memorial Hospital with breaking Federal labor laws.

On Tuesday, the National Labor Relations Board announced it filed a complaint against the hospital for what they call outsourcing. The NLRB says L&M moved part of its health care operations to outside buildings in order to avoid unionizing workers there. At the same time, the board charges that the hospital laid off union employees.

“They shut down these clinics and then they outsourced it to a shell corporation that they own. So they are basically outsourcing to themselves,” President of AFT Local 5049 Lisa D’Abrosca said.

L&M responded in a statement which said in part:

“We are confident that our actions have been entirely proper and lawful. As this process plays out, we remain committed to our mission — providing the best patient care possible.”

The NLRB has set a trial date for October 21.
