WALLINGFORD – A Clintonville Road home was gutted by fire early Monday, according to fire officials.
Firefighters were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. after a neighbor heard several large pops and saw a garage on fire at a nearby home. The neighbor ran to the home and alerted three adults inside who escaped without injury.
The fire started in the garage but spread to the rest of the home causing extensive damage, according to fire officials. The fire was contained and the Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced residents.
One firefighter sprained his ankle fighting the blaze and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
