The University of New Haven football team will charge the field this fall equipped with tiny technology that could help revolutionize the sport. Each player will wear head impact censors to help the school better understand the effect of concussions on athletes.

“It’s obviously time for something to be done in the field of head injuries,” said head football coach Peter Rossomando.

The censors were developed by Norwalk-based company Triax. Each piece weighs a few ounces and tucks into a lightweight cap or headband.

“The athlete would put it on their head, position it in the back, and that’s all they have to do,” described Hunter Hollingsworth of Triax. “From there they go out and play and the device is constantly communicating with the sideline PC.”

Coach Rossomando says his players are slowly accepting of the potential game changer. His men want to stay in the action for as long as they can.

“These players are getting bigger and stronger and faster. I don’t want to say the sport is becoming dangerous but if we don’t take the right measures into protecting our players it could be dangerous,” said Senior and linebacker Matt Fallico.
