Much of the unofficial last weekend of summer has been spent beneath a veil of clouds here in Connecticut, including at the beaches. But, the misty mess did not keep everyone away.

For Chris Laby, of West Hartford, today was going to be a beach day, rain or shine. She enjoyed a relaxing read on her Nook, at Hammonasset State Beach in Madison.

Carlos Martinez, Jr., of Waterbury, brought his family of four to enjoy the shore.

“It’s really not the weather that makes the day enjoyable. It’s the people that you spend it with, “said a smiling and proud Martinez.

Martinez’s wife thought today featured ideal beach weather.

“It’s better to have the beach to yourself than all crowded, hot and sticky. I don’t like to be around so many people,” noted Mrs. Martinez

Not everyone is disappointed summer has drawn to a close.

Ava Amaturo, a youngster from Northford, said, “I’m actually happy because then Christmas time comes sooner. And, Halloween comes sooner.
