A New York security firm, SecureWatch24 LLC, will begin work in Rocky Hill today to assess security and look for improvements to make schools in town safer as students head back after their summer break.

Town Manager Barbara R. Gilbert signed two consulting agreements with Manhattan-based SecureWatch24 LLC back in June, one for $32,000 for Rocky Hill High School, which is undergoing a $45 million renovation, and $16,000 for Griswold Middle School and the two elementary schools.

Gilbert had recommended funding four school resource officers in the 2013-14 budget. The council chose not to fund any of the positions until after the security review was completed. The money – about $372,000 – was put into a fund to meet anticipated security improvements.

Information from Hartford Courant reports is included.
