Connecticut’s NAACP is demanding action after a New Britain man died Tuesday hours after police tasered him.

40-year-old Seth Victor died after a stand-off with police who say he was throwing things out of his third floor apartment and threatening to hurt himself.

Civil Rights Leaders met with the New Britain Police Chief and Mayor Wednesday asking for a stun gun moratorium until officers get more training on how and when to use tasers.

The NAACP has been pushing for a statewide moratorium for years.  There have been 13 taser-related deaths in Connecticut since 2005, although the taser has not been ruled the official cause of death in all of them.

Victor’s best friend Michael Wheaton agrees with a ban saying police could have used him instead of a taser to resolve the situation, “He was calling for his mother, he was calling for me, this didn’t have to happen, I could’ve talked him out of this.”
