The Capitol Report panel discusses the Democratic primaries for mayor in New Haven and Stamford and the recall elections for two state senators in Colorado who supported gun control legislation and were subsequently voted out of office.

In New Haven, state Sen. Toni Harp won the primary for mayor with about 50 percent of the vote. But Justin Elicker, who came in second, has vowed to run in the November election as an independent candidate.

In Stamford, David Martin, who was endorsed by the local Democratic Party, beat state Rep. William Tong in a primary. Tong, who launched an unsuccessful bid for U.S. Senate in 2012, was endorsed by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, himself a former Stamford mayor.
