He is not officially in the 2014 gubernatorial race yet, but Tom Foley continues to lob verbal grenades at Governor Dannel Malloy. And Malloy is not at all amused by Foley’s ethics claims.

Among Foley’s assertions: former Governor Malloy aide Roy Occhiogrosso’s communications firm improperly earned a state contract just six months after leaving the capitol.

“The fact that somebody who’s one of the governor’s most trusted aides would leave the administration and within six months, a firm that he’s a partner in, would get a very lucrative contract with the state to me is completely unacceptable,” said Foley.

But, the contract with Occhiogrosso’s Global Strategies Groups, does conform to state ethics laws. Governor Malloy’s response to Foley today?

“Guys, I don’t even want to talk about this stuff. He is factually incorrect on the points that he is making and continuing to make. And, now you guys have a job to do and go show that he’s factually incorrect,” said a clearly irritated Malloy.

Foley also claimed that Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Dan Esty made improper campaign contributions to Malloy prior to being named commissioner.

“He can just release his tax returns from 2006 through 2010, with all the W2s and everything else associated with it,” added Foley.

In response, Esty released a statement yesterday, saying, in part, “At no time have I or the consulting firm I once ran had any employment relationship with Dan Malloy in any way shape or form.”

To that, Foley replied, “We didn’t say he employed him.”
