A new student hangout at Central Connecticut State University honors the victims of Newtown.
The Sandy Hook Memorial Garden is situated between dorms on campus.
It’s comprised of three benches, with a Japanese Maple as the center piece, and is bordered by various flowering plants.
CCSU senior, Autumn Cloud-Ingram, came up with the idea of a memorial garden because she was a former student at Sandy Hook. “College is a busy time for everyone, the students and the faculty, so just to have a place to kind of go sit, reflect, take a moment to breath, appreciate yourself, appreciate what you have,” Cloud-Ingram said.
CCSU is also connected to Sandy Hook because Nelba Marquez-Greene is a professor at the university.
Marquez-Greene’s six-year-old daughter, Ana, was a victim in the deadly mass shooting.
