Regular commuters on the Metro-North New Haven Line are flocking to the Harlem Line in an effort to avoid a train or traffic crisis.

On Thursday night, commuters headed to the Southeast Station in Brewster, N.Y. Others returned from the city in White Plains, N.Y.

“I figured, you know, that’s not going to work so I just drove down 84. Took me about an hour and twenty minutes,” Mary Pisa said.

On Wednesday, electrical problems caused a massive shutdown of trains on the New Haven Line between Stamford and Grand Central Station. Buses and diesel trains are in use but can only transport about a third of the normal commuting population.

“I have to tell you, I’m governor of 125,000 pretty unhappy commuters right now. And I needed to come down here to express their frustration,” Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy said.
