Hundreds came out for a scholarship fundraiser in Hebron Saturday evening.

It was in honor of a Hebron cheerleader Paige Houston, a 17-year-old soon to be senior who was killed in a car accident in early August. Paige’s cheerleading friends wanted to do something to remember her, and they thought what better way than to give back, just like Paige would have wanted.

The team created a scholarship in her name to be awarded to a Hebron senior at the end of the year.

“Paige was always about friends and community and very happy-go-lucky,” said Sandy Nichols, an organizer of the event. Her daughter Tamer Nichols was a good friend of Paige.

Paige and her closest friends referred to each other as the fierce five. Friends say it has been difficult moving on, but they’re doing so slowly.

“You try to put on a smile every day, but yeah, I miss her a lot,” said Tamer Nichols.

“Paige was a very nice person that liked to help everyone, and she was very involved in the community,” said another friend, Rachelle Levasseur.

“It’s tough,” said Paige’s mom, Michele Houston. “I try to focus on the positive and think what she’s going to do because as long as I have a breath this girl will never be forgotten.”

The dinner was a success and the fundraiser is something they want to continue in Paige’s honor.
