Meet Josh Marshall, a young man from England in New England for the next three months, documenting American culture for his YouTube travel show “Glimpsed.”

Marshall said he is “looking at glimpses of stereotypical cultures but from a personal perspective to try to expand on that stereotype.”

“I wanted to go and explore stereotypes for muscle cars, diners, burgers, bourbon, guns, all the things Europeans think they know.”

He has been in Connecticut a month and already shot episodes at Lime Rock on muscle cars, Thomas Hooker Ale Brewery in Bloomfield, the New Haven Sportsman’s Club and Harry’s Pizza in West Hartford.

“It’s all been done online, mostly through social media,” Marshall said. “That’s the idea. I wanted to get average Joes to show me that slice of America.

“People have been amazingly receptive, more than I could have hoped for. People have been very helpful, very friendly — coming an hour out of their way to pick me up and take me to places, spending their own money to let me enjoy the thing that they are passionate about.”

Back home Josh has worked for BBC and ITV, but on this project he’s a one man band: producing, hosting, filming and editing solo.

“It’s just essentially a massive, extravagant British pet project,” he said.

Ultimately he hopes the YouTube series, already gaining online popularity, will be picked up and funded.

“So the point of the show is to experience America through the passions of average people,” he said. “If anyone has something American they did, get in touch. I’m open to anything.”
