PLAINVILLE — A Plainville man who collected and shared on the Internet sexual images of 20 local women, most taken several years ago when they were minors, was arrested Monday on a charge of possession of child pornography, police said.
Nicholas O. Olsen, 22, was charged with eight counts of promoting a minor in an obscene performance, they said.
He also was charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor because he allegedly had sex with a minor — who was 14 or 15 at the time, they said.
Olsen was in custody on $150,000 bail Monday morning and was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Bristol later in the day.
While the young women consented to the private photographs being taken several years ago, they did not know the pictures and videos would be posted on the Internet, police said.
According to police, officers received a complaint about an Internet website that showed several nude images of young-looking women or girls in April of 2013. The photos included “numerous Plainville residents from their early teenage years,” they said.
Twenty were positively identified as former or current Plainville residents, police said. Of those, 16 were between 12 and 15 years old at the time the pictures were taken.
Police learned that Olsen had built up a collection of nude images after soliciting the images from various people over the years. He saved the images on his home computers, they said.
During the investigation, police learned that Olsen had a sexual relationship with a girl who was 14 or 15.
