On Oct. 1, a number of new laws will take effect in Connecticut. The legislation ranges from new steps to purchase firearms to making it illegal for teens to use tanning beds.

Other new measures include:

  • Public Act 13-3 makes extensive changes in the state’s gun (firearm) laws, including requiring anyone buying ammunition to have a state-issued gun credential starting Oct. 1, 2013. (PA 13-3)
  • A new law stiffens the penalties for drivers who violate certain laws within highway work zones, and makes other changes concerning highway work zone safety. Among other things, it doubles the fine for drivers who use hand-held cell phones in a highway work zone.
  • A new law subjects tattoo artists and their establishments to state licensing and local inspection requirements, respectively.
