A team from Newtown is running for a cause in this weekend’s ING Hartford Marathon. They’re raising money for the 12.14 Foundation, dedicated to building a performing arts center in Newtown in memory of the victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Foundation members say it’ll be a place where the power of the arts will help to heal people from all over the world.

Foundation founder Dr. Michael Baroody says, “[The goal is] to make that into an interactive, high-tech type of performing arts center that can have global outreach where Newtown is the epicenter of it.  Through movement and through music we can express ourselves in a way that verbal communication can’t.”

The 12.14 Foundation board is still working out details of the size and scope of the arts center and considering how much money the group will need to raise in order to build it.

Through this one effort in the marathon they’ve raised $7,500 dollars.   They’d like to raise  $10,000 by Saturday.
