Hartford Marathon Road Closures And Traffic Report

HARTFORD — To accommodate the roughly 17,000 people expected to participate in the ING Hartford Marathon, which starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, several city streets will be closed to traffic during the race.

The roads are expected to reopen once the runners pass, according to the marathon’s website, and police will direct crossing traffic when possible during the race. Drivers, however, should still expect delays and detours.

Parking is also prohibited on several roads. Towing will begin at 5 a.m. Saturday.

The following roads will be affected Saturday:

*Pearl, Ford and State streets and Founders Bridge will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

*Asylum and South Whitney streets and Farmington Avenue will be closed from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.

*Capitol Avenue between Broad and Hudson streets will be closed from midnight to 9 a.m.

*Broad Street will be closed from 7:30 to 9 a.m.

*Sheldon, Weston, Market, Prospect and Park streets, Van Dyke Avenue and Rev. Moody Overpass will be closed from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

In addition, the following highway exits will be affected:

*On I-84 East, Exit 48B (Capitol Avenue) will be closed from 7:30 to 9 a.m.; Exit 48A (Asylum Street) will be closed until noon; and Exit 53 (East River Drive) will be closed until 10 a.m.

*On I-84 West, Exit 48 will accommodate only westbound traffic until noon; Exit 54 (Founders Bridge) will accommodate only westbound traffic throughout the morning; and Exit 50 (Main Street) will be closed until 9 a.m.

*On I-91 South, exits 32B (Trumbull Street) and 31 (State Street) will be closed until 9 a.m.

*On I-91 north, Exit 32B (Trumbull Street) will be closed until 9 a.m.

Friday & Saturday, October 11 and 12, the Star Shuttle will operate from 7:00AM to 1:00AM. October 13 (Sunday) the Star Shuttle will provide service between 7:00AM and 5:00PM. Please note, the route on Saturday, October 12th will be different due to the Marathon.
