On Monday afternoon, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy. UConn President Susan Herbst, state lawmakers and other UConn officials will hold a ceremony in Storrs to celebrate the final approval of Next Generation Connecticut, a major initiative endorsed by more than 100 businesses that invests $1.5 billion in state money in UConn.
According to the website for “NextGenCT” : “The shared goal of this proposal is to leverage the strength and resources of this university to build Connecticut’s future workforce, create jobs, and bring new life to the state’s economy. The cornerstone of this effort is a major increase in the university’s enrollment, the expansion of our faculty – above and beyond UConn’s current faculty hiring initiative – and new and updated facilities to accommodate enhanced STEM research and teaching, as well as our growing population.”
