There’s a new pet-friendly alternative treatment for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Since April, “Hounds Healing Heroes” has been matching dogs with service members returning from war, who are struggling with PTSD.
The dogs are rescues from shelters, and before they’ve been permanently placed in a home, they go through some specialized training.
Studies have shown dogs can be calming, and representatives with “Hounds Healing Heroes” said dogs’ instincts can detect an anxiety attack.
So far about eight shelter dogs have been placed with veterans.
