WATERFORD — A man is believed to have taken his own life after a standoff with police on Great Neck Road Monday night, police said.
Shortly before 9 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call from 147 Great Neck Road about a man possibly wanting to harm himself. Upon arrival, officers learned that four children were inside the home and the man was armed with a gun, police said.
Officers were unable to establish contact with the man inside the home and state police were called in. Some time later police entered the home and located a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The children were found unharmed and were turned over to family members, police said. The name of the man is not being released at this time and the incident is under investigation.
