John Green, president and CEO of Lux Bond & Green, talks about his new role as chairman of the board of governors of the Gemological Institute of America.

The Gemological Institute of America is the largest nonprofit institute in our worldwide jewelry industry providing education, research and laboratory services. The worldwide institute has more than 2,000 employees in 14 countries and its headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif. The group educates thousands each year both in traditional classrooms and through online courses for diamonds, colored gemstones stones, pearls, jewelry making,  jewelry  design and professional management. Green earned my first degree as a gemologist in 1979 after graduating from college in 1978.
