NEW BRITAIN — A city man faces cruelty to animal charges after police found one dog dead and another looking malnourished at his home last week.

Anthony Rodgers, 23, who lives in an apartment at 408 East Street, was charged Oct. 31 with two counts each of cruelty to animals, no rabies vaccination and failure to have a dog license. He was released on a promise to appear in Superior Court Nov. 13, court documents show.

According to police, an officer received an anonymous complaint of a dead dog in the basement of the apartment building and went to the address. The officer found a dead pit bull, about 11 months old, in a crate, they said.

The officer then found a second dog tied up in the back yard that looked malnourished, police said.

The second dog was brought to an animal hospital and later to New Britain’s animal control facility, where it will listed for adoption, Sgt. Bryant Pearson said.
