A warming trend will peak today with high temperatures nearing 60 in much of the state. We’ll see some showers on Thursday followed by cooler weather Friday and the weekend and the coldest air of the fall season coming next week.

After a brief cold snap during the past couple of days, milder temperatures are on the way today and tomorrow with highs reaching the upper 50s to low 60s as a southerly wind transports milder air into Connecticut. This mild air will be short-lived as a cold front that is currently located in the Midwest will cross our area with the chance for moderate showers bringing upwards of a quarter of an inch of rain tomorrow.

This front will transport cooler air for Friday and Saturday with highs averaging in the upper 40s and low 50s with overnight lows in the 20s and 30’. A weak Alberta Clipper will scoot through central and northern New England on Sunday with a band of clouds and light showers. Most of the showers will be on the light side as the front is moisture starved with very little energy associated with it.

The cold front will usher in the coldest air-mass of the fall season next week. High temperatures will average only in the 30s and 40s while overnight lows will average in the teens and 20s Monday through Wednesday, despite copious amounts of sunshine and blue sky.  Another cold front will cross the region late next week with a band of showers that will reinforce the unseasonably cold air in place for the end of next weekend and into next weekend.
